  1. Chee Successfully Defends Thesis

    Chee Gang Ngui defended his Masters Thesis on November 14th, 2023. His thesis focused on using rhizoboxes to phenotype chile pepper root systems under water deficit conditions. Chee will be continuing with his education and embarking on a doctoral degree with Leah McHale's lab. Congratulations Chee!

    Katie Fulcher successfully defended her undergraduate honors thesis and presented her work at the 2023 Autumn Undergraduate Research Festival. Congratulations Katie! She will be graduating in December 2023 with Honors Research Distinction. Katie's hard work has contributed greatly to our knowledge of chile seed and seedling characteristics across domestication a gradient.

  4. Congratulations Hannah for Receiving IGP Funding!

    Hannah was recently awarded funding from the CFAES Internal Grants Program (IGP). This funding will help further Hannah's PhD work on her project, Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) landrace diversity in resistance to Phytophthora capsici root rot.

  5. Welcome Keyvan Maleki!

    Keyvan is joining our lab as a doctoral student working on the USDA-funded Agriculture and Food Research Initiative, "Nitrogen fixation in Zea through domestication, spread, and improvement in the
    Americas." He joins us from the University of Tehran, where he got his M.S. in Agronomy and Plant Ecology. Welcome Keyvan!

    Anna Baltisberger, an undergraduate majoring in Sustainable Plant Systems with a specialization in Agroecology, successfully defended her Honors Thesis. Anna will be graduating with research distinction in May 2022 and focused her thesis on studying the ability of Mexican landraces to produce aerial roots that host nitrogen fixing bacteria in a greenhouse controlled environment. She was a recipient of the Will C. Hauk Memorial Scholarship Fund, which supported her research. Congratulations Anna!

    Hannah is joining our lab as a doctoral student on the chile pepper project, specifically studying the concept of utilizing niche theory to help discover beneficial genes from crop wild relatives. She joins us from Miami University where she obtained her B.S. and M.S. in Biology. Welcome Hannah!

  10. Chee Ngui has joined our lab!

    Chee comes to us from Iowa State University where he received his B.S. in Horticulture Science and Seed Science. While working towards a Masters degree, he will focus on QTL analysis for chilli pepper. Welcome, Chee!
